Were It Not For Grace

Updated: Jan 12

I have good news for you: our God is a God of grace. I’ve heard grace explained as God’s unmerited favor, or simply getting what you don’t deserve.

In the story of Genesis, there is deceit, disputes and disobedience among God’s chosen people. Why would God choose to bless them?  How could a redeemer come from a people steeped in sin?  Only by His grace. Praise God! God’s grace was evident in the lives of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and most clearly seen in sending His one and only Son, Jesus, to save us from our sin. Rejoice in the grace of our faithful God!

Week 3

Bible Reading Plan

Genesis 28-29; Mark 11

Weekly Content Questions Every week, you'll see the same five content questions. Use them as a guide as you read the scriptures. Pray for consistency in your Bible reading.

  1. Who are the main characters in this text, and is there anyone you can relate to?

  1. Is there anything from this text that we are to do (obey, believe, heed, or follow)?

  1. What do you learn about God in these chapters, and how has that changed what you believe about Him?

  1. What do these passages reveal about human nature, sin, and our need for God?

  1. What’s the Good News found in this text?

Application Questions

Every week, you'll see five unique application questions. Use them to help live out what you're learning in scripture. Pray for life transformation.

  1. In Mark 13, Jesus warns us multiple times to stay awake. What can you do to stay spiritually awake?

  2. As in Psalm 145, THIS WEEK, how will you declare, praise, speak of, and make known God? Why is He worth it?

  3. When life is hard and God seems distant, what will you do to hold fast to God and persevere? Do you have people who will help you?

  4. Think of a time when God’s will wasn't what you expected. How did you respond? Looking back, would you do anything differently?

  5. What connection do you see between a fear of God and the strength to resist temptation? Who do you fear more: man or God?

Final Thought

God never said the life of his followers would be one of ease or comfort. He did promise that he would be with us and that His grace is sufficient. You can rest in that, my friends. That is good news!
