Revelation of Jesus Christ

The Revelation of Jesus Christ is believed to have been written by the Apostle John, and is a prophetic vision of the end of the world as we know it. This entails God’s judgment of the earth and the coming of the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus. Next week will cover the final judgment of all mankind. This will include the casting out of those who continued in their sin and disbelief, and the rewarding of those who believed in the Lord Jesus into the family of God for eternity. This also includes evil forces in the spiritual realm, such as Satan and all the forces that follow him. The evil world system is often called “Babylon.” To that end, there is a lot of Old Testament imagery and historical context that can be confusing. There are many interpretations that faithful Christians take of the Revelation; however, the overarching point is that Jesus is coming to judge sin and establish His Kingdom. The question comes down to will the Church will joyfully endure until the end?  Remember that “Apokalypsis” is a word that means unveiling or revealing, so this is the revealing of the Lord Jesus. Love will finally show up!!! That is the Big Picture.

Week 52

Bible Reading Plan

Daily Prayer Plan

START IT.

We're reading the Bible together in 2025 to see how Love Shows Up from the Old Testament and into the New Testament. How do we understand so many stories and lessons through the entire Bible while trying to stick to the "sacred timeline"? The answer is the big picture. If we get the big picture, we get the story the Bible is trying to tell. From Sunday's message or The Big Picture Bible Reading Plan this week in the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, what is impacting you the most? How has praying daily through the Psalms impacted you? Was there a word, phrase, Bible verse, or theme that impacted you?

R.E.A.D. - Repeated words. Examine & mark. Ask what I learn about God? Do.

STUDY IT.

Read Revelation 1:1. Who is this revelation about? Read Revelation 17:17. Who’s plan is this?

As you read Revelation look for the number 7. Some examples would be 7 seals, angels, trumpets, bowls, horns, eyes, spirits, thunders, thousands killed in an earthquake, plagues. What do you think is significant about the number 7? Where are other places 7 is important? (Hint Genesis)

Read Revelation 5:2-6, 9-10. Who was worthy to open the scroll to the conclusion of history? What does it mean to be the Lion of the tribe of Judah and the Root of David? (Hint: Genesis 49:8-10, Isaiah 11:1-10)

Read Revelation 9:20-21 & 16:11,21. How are the enemies of God described? Read Revelation 18:21-24. What will happen to Babylon, which is the center and symbol of wickedness?

What was the most encouraging thing for you about reading and applying Revelation?

FINAL THOUGHT

“Why do Christians decorate with crosses?” This was a question posed this week by a person who has been in church for years, however, does not believe in Jesus. Christians decorate with the cross because it is the symbol of our salvation by the Lord Jesus’ sacrifice. The deeper question is if God could have used anything to redeem man, why did God decide on the cross as the way? The broad answer is His Glory. The cross was the way that God could gain the most glory in the salvation of His people, satisfying the holiness, justice, and grace of God.

Revelation Chapter 5 “1 Then I saw in the right hand of the one seated on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides, sealed with seven seals. 2 I also saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals? ” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or even to look in it. 4 I wept and wept because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or even to look in it. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Look, the Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered so that he is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” 6 Then I saw one like a slaughtered lamb standing in the midst of the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent into all the earth. 7 He went and took the scroll out of the right hand of the one seated on the throne. 8 When he took the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and golden bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song: You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slaughtered, and you purchased people for God by your blood from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10 You made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign on the earth. 11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels around the throne, and also of the living creatures and of the elders. Their number was countless thousands, plus thousands of thousands. 12 They said with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing! 13 I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them say, Blessing and honor and glory and power be to the one seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever! 14 The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.”
