Fruit

The readings from Luke will continue through the Crucifixion narrative from the plot to kill Jesus to the choice of Barabas. The readings from John remain focused on the discussion during the Last Supper, which is where our attention will be. The next 3 weeks will finish the Crucifixion account into the beginning of the Church. The extended dialogue in John focuses on the last personal interactions with the disciples, as well as the foretelling betrayal of Judas, the denial of Peter, and the scattering of the disciples until Jesus’ resurrection. This seems bleak, however, Jesus also promised that those who remain in Him would produce much fruit, and that is the Big Picture.

Each week, as you take in the Bible, find some friends to talk it out. You can follow this simple guide to help. First, R.E.A.D. and P.R.A.Y. on your own. Then, meet with friends to share what you've learned.

R - Repeated words

E - Examine and mark

A - Ask what you learn about God

D - Do if there is anything to do

Week 26 -

Bible Reading Plan

Daily Prayer Plan

START IT.

We're reading the Bible together in 2025 to see how Love Shows Up from the Old Testament and into the New Testament. How do we understand so many stories and lessons through the entire Bible while trying to stick to the "sacred timeline"? The answer is the big picture. If we get the big picture, we get the story the Bible is trying to tell. From Sunday's message or The Big Picture Bible Reading Plan this week in Luke and John, what is impacting you the most? How has praying daily through the Psalms impacted you? Was there a word, phrase, Bible verse, or theme that impacted you?

STUDY IT.

Read John 13:11. Why was it important that the disciples know that Jesus knew Judas would betray him? (Hint: John 13:19, John 10:18)

Read John 13:13-15 and 1 John 2:9-10. If Jesus is your teacher and Lord, how will this affect how you engage with other believers?

Read John 14:6-7. What is the way to the Father that you can know? How does someone get to the Father?

Read John 15:5-8. Describe the difference between those that remain in Christ and those that ultimately do not?

Read John 15:16. What have you been appointed to do? Read John 15:17. What have you been commanded to do?

SHARE IT.

Read John 14:1. What is the command here, and how do you follow it? What area of your life does this command apply to right now?

Read John 15:2. What is pruning? How might this be happening in your life?

Read John 15:5. How does a person remain or abide in Jesus daily? Are you intentional about this?

Read John 15:16-17. Where have you seen God produce fruit that honors Him and proves you are His disciple?

Read Luke 22:42. What can you learn about obedience from Jesus’ prayer? What is an area that you have been submitting to the Lord despite wishing to go some other way?

FINAL THOUGHT

Jesus says in John 15:16 that “You did not choose me, but I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce fruit, and that your fruit should remain.” Psalm 126:1-2 states, “Unless the Lord builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain; unless the Lord watches over a city, the watchman stays alert in vain. In vain you get up early and stay up late, working hard to have enough food—yes, he gives sleep to the one he loves.” God empowers us to produce fruit that is both honoring to Him and that will remain beyond this world and into eternity. While seeking rewards in heaven is encouraged by Jesus (Matthew 6:19-21), the most precious fruit, reward, and treasure is remaining in Jesus himself.
